Whats better, a few books, or just getting stuck in?

Getting stuck in for sure, and using the web when you get stuck, once you get the core principles done, you'll be away!

Books just over analyse eveything, over introduce simple things and take the fun out of the creativity and individuality of it all.

I guess its the same as learning PHP - just get stuck in. I don't actually want to learn it to any great level apart from the basics as occasionally I have to edit an ASP file. It's like learning another spoken language I guess, a few words can go a long way.

Woho....there are nice posts.well according to me for learn asp you should learn some books in depth of this language and online study is most useful for you and finally you should have to be an attend the seminars.

It sounds too easy to be true but asp.net learn has a lot of free tutorials that will teach you how to use it. just download visual studio and start making sites on your local host and play around with it. web pages in asp.net is what i do for a living and thats how i learned.

ASP is very easy language but you can get command only by doing it practically not theoratically.
